Colin Firth in Talks To Join Steven Spielberg's UFO-Inspired Film Project at Universal Pictures

Colin Firth (Kingsman) is in talks to join Emily Blunt in director Steven Spielberg's untitled film project that’s set up at Universal Pictures.

Amblin Entertainment is producing the film and Spielberg developed the script with his longtime collaborator David Koepp (Jurassic Park).

The report from Deadline says there are no details to share on the story for this movie, but was previously reported that Spielberg’s next movie would be a “UFO film based on his own original idea.”

Spielberg previously reflected on his past and teased that he’s interested in "scaring the sh*t" out of audiences with a new horror movie.

He said: "I feel a little alarmed to be told I've lived a lifetime because I'm not finished. I want to keep working. I want to keep learning and discovering and scaring the shit out of myself and sometimes the shit out of you. I gotta get back to some of those earlier scary movies but that's another story for later on."

I have no idea if this movie will be a sci-fi horror film, but it would be really cool if that’s what it turned out to be.

Spielberg has always been fascinated with stories about UFOs and aliens, he directed two of the greatest sci-fi movies of all time: Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977 and E.T. in 1982. He also helmed the 2005 adaptation of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds, and he produced the 2002 UFO series Taken.

I’m curious to see what this movie ends up being. It will hit theaters on May 15th, 2026.
