Dafne Keen's STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE Character Is Described as a "Bi-Species" Young Jedi
Some new details have emerged for Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Acolyte series, which is being developed by director, writer, executive producer, and showrunner Leslye Headland.
This story is set in the High Republic era, and the story is described as "a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated." The series takes place 100 years before the franchise’s prequel trilogy. The High Republic era is known as the Golden Age of the Jedi, a time when the ancient order was at its peak.
Dafne Keen (His Dark Materials, Logan) plays a big part in the story and we’ve recently learned in an interview with Empire, that she is playing "bi-species" young Jedi. It turns out that she is a human-alien hybrid character. It makes sense that in the vast Star Wars universe, all kinds of different alien species are getting together and having kids. I mean, humans and Jawas have gotten together! Star Wars: Rebels introduced a hybrid-species character with Jacen Syndulla, who is the son of Kanan Jarrus and Hera Syndulla.
Keen described the new Star Wars series as "David Bowie meets Star Wars” and talked about the look of her character saying, “I have a little mullet, I have horns, it's cute." Headland added: "As a queer filmmaker, you're gonna see some camp. Inevitably! But I would say that tonally, our references are darker."
The series was also previously described as “Frozen meets Kill Bill.” You can read some additional details on the series along with a description of footage that was shared here.
The cast for the series also includes Amandla Stenberg (The Hate U Give), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (The Good Place), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), and Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim).
The series will also include The High Republic era character Vernestra Rwoh (Rebecca Henderson), a Mirialan Jedi Knight and a fan-favorite from her appearances in Star Wars books and comics.
I’m curious about this project. There’s still so much that we don’t know about it, but I just hope that it’s good.
