David Harbour Confirms His Return as Frankenstein in CREATURE COMMANDOS Season 2 Coming in 2027
David Harbour has plenty of superhero chaos on his schedule. The actor is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday this December, but he’s also heading back to James Gunn’s DCU in 2027 to reprise his role as Eric Frankenstein in Creature Commandos Season 2.
Harbour confirmed the news during an interview with ComicBook while promoting his upcoming sequel, Violent Night 2. He revealed that he’s already recorded some dialogue for the new season, which means Frankenstein’s bizarre adventures are far from over.
“It’s great,” Harbour said. “I just think James’ writing is just so (good), and he really loves those characters. Some of them have some really crazy arcs this season. It’s just really… It’s just great.”
Creature Commandos launched in December 2024 as the first official project in Gunn’s new DCU, introducing audiences to a wonderfully messed-up collection of monsters and misfits. Harbour’s Frankenstein quickly became one of the show's most entertaining characters, even though he wasn't actually part of the team.
Instead, he spent much of the season obsessively pursuing The Bride, voiced by Indira Varma, convinced that she belonged with him despite her repeatedly making it clear she wanted nothing to do with him.
Their twisted relationship led to several violent encounters, and Frankenstein appeared to meet his end before a post-credits scene revealed that he was still alive. Unfortunately for The Bride, he hadn't learned a damn thing.
With Harbour returning, it'll be interesting to see where Gunn takes the character next. There's also the possibility of another confrontation with Clayface, who previously fought Frankenstein during Season 1.
The Batman villain is getting a much bigger role in the DCU, with Tom Rhys Harries playing him in DC Studios' Clayface movie. Gunn has already teased additional plans for the character, so another run-in with Frankenstein wouldn't be out of the question.
As for when we'll actually see the monsters return, James Gunn recently confirmed that Creature Commandos Season 2 will premiere in 2027, arriving “not long” after Man of Tomorrow hits theaters in July.
An official premiere date hasn't been announced, but a late summer release could be possible. For now, DC Studios hasn't revealed much about its schedule beyond the Superman sequel.
Frankenstein won't be the only familiar monster returning, either. Gunn has also confirmed that King Shark will have a significant role in Season 2, bringing the character back into the DCU after his appearance in The Suicide Squad and a tease at the end of the animated show's first season.
Between Harbour's lovesick Frankenstein, King Shark joining the madness, and Gunn promising some wild character arcs, Creature Commandos Season 2 has plenty of potential to get even crazier than the first.
The first season was a fun and violent introduction to Gunn's DCU, and I'm looking forward to seeing what other ridiculous situations these characters find themselves in when the series returns in 2027.
