Director Lineup for STAR WARS: AHSOKA Finally Revealed

The director lineup for Dave Filoni’s Star Wars: Ahsoka series has finally been revealed. Filoni, who is the writer and producer of the project, directed two episodes in the eight-episode series, Episodes 1 and 5.

The rest of the directors include Oscar nominee Steph Green (Watchmen) who directed Episodes 2 and 3, Peter Ramsey (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) helmed Episode 4, Jennifer Getzinger (Mad Men) directed Episode 6, Geeta Vasant Patel (House of the Dragon) jumped on board for Episode 7, and Rick Famuyiwa (The Mandalorian) directed Episode 8.

There’s a lot of solid talent there, and I have no doubt that they all did a great job directing their segments. With Filoni taking on the first and fifth episodes, I imagine those are the ones that he connected most with. When previously talking about the show and his experience developing it, he said that it’s "everything I could hope for."

"Oh, it's fantastic. I mean, it's everything I could hope for. I never dreamed of [running a live-action series] as I was learning over the years. But to have a character that's just come up over the years with a lot of fans as they've grown up and now she's at the point where we can do this, it's wonderful to be this same person guiding it across the different mediums, I think lends a consistency to the character that's very uncommon."

Filoni continued:

"A lot of times when you're an animator, you watch your creation kind of spin-off and it's taken by other people, you never know. And you want to take care of these characters because you know them so well and it's a really unique situation we're in, but it's awesome. There's no other way to put it. The simple answer is just, 'Yeah, it's awesome.'"

The show will pick up where Star Wars Rebels left off and the search for Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) and Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) really begins. The official logline reads: “Set after the fall of the Empire, Star Wars: Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”

Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) joins Ahsoka on her journey. They will be joined by Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and the droid, Chopper, and Zeb will also most likely return. The series also stars Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Ray Stevenson as Baylon, and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati.

The limited series is written by Dave Filoni who executive produces along with Jon Favreau and Kathleen Kennedy.

Ahsoka will debut on Disney+ on August 23, 2023.
