Disney Plans to Put Up a Fight with Their Streaming Service
When Disney announced that they were making their own streaming service, it was bittersweet for me. I already have Netflix where a lot of their content has been, why should I have to pay for another video service when this deal has been working out great for me. The positive would be access to movies and shows not on Netflix. Disney plans on pulling all of their existing Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars properties off Netflix. They also plan on bringing original Marvel and Star Wars series exclusively to their new streaming service that fans won't want to miss out on.
Well, CEO Bob Iger recently revealed to investors a few more details about their streaming service. First, they’re planning on producing more original shows based on various properties High School Musical, Monsters Inc. and more. Second, Iger said that the service will be priced “substantially below” Netflix (the most popular plan is currently $10.99). Of course, this isn’t terribly surprising since at launch Disney’s service will not have nearly as much as Netflix has in terms of programming. I’m interested to see what the actual numbers will be and how long before Disney decides it has enough programming to justify the first price hike.
The Disney streaming service is slated for release in 2019.
