Hugh Jackman Describes His Wolverine Return as a "Dual Role" in Marvel's DEADPOOL 3
Hugh Jackman recently revealed an interesting bit of new information regarding his return as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. In a new interview with France's La Parisien, Jackman described his return as a "dual role," which seems to suggest that he might also be playing a Wolverine variant.
With shooting set to begin this summer, he’s prepping for the role, and looking to get into Wolverine shape. When talking about that he said:
“Yes, it will even be a dual role. Ryan and I have been friends for twenty years, we have a lot of fun together. We are filming this summer. That’s why I’m so happy to be in Paris right now and to be able to enjoy French gastronomy. Because very soon, I’m going to have to put myself on a strict diet to remake my Wolverine body: steamed chicken and broccoli!”
If this is true, it will be really interesting to see two Wolverines running around in the MCU! We’ll eventually get some concrete details about this movie, but right now, we just have to go off of what the people involved are saying, and this is a piece of info that’s sure to perk fans’ imagination.
The movie is being directed by Shawn Levy, who previously teased the R-rated violence and foulness of the film, saying: "We are writing, rewriting, developing, prepping Deadpool every day now. It is such a blast to laugh every day. It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it's very much a Deadpool movie."
It’s also been revealed that Wolverine and Deadpool are not going to get along in the movie. Wolverine hates Deadpool, and Jackman previously talked about that, saying: “How do I categorize it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality, we’re zero, we’re opposites, hate each other. I’m just talking from my perspective, [Logan’s] frustrated by him, wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head. Unfortunately, he can’t be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I’m probably going to punch him in the head a lot.”
Ryan Reynolds also previously shared some information on a Deadpool and Wolverine plot that was being planned before Disney bought Fox. It “was gonna be a road trip between Deadpool and Logan. Rashomon style. For real.” I hope they still plan on that!
For those of you not familiar with what a Rashomon-style story is, it’s where the same event is recounted by several characters, and the stories differ in ways that are impossible to reconcile. It shows that two or more people can view the same event quite differently.
Deadpool 3 is scheduled for a November 8, 2024 release.
