James Gunn Explain Why Superman Will Be the Face of DC's Intros: "He's Our MGM Lion"

Fans got a first glimpse of DC’s opening logo before the debut of Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, with a classic comic book style Superman busting through a set of chains, and taking a hands on hips stance.

The center circle where the superhero is featured then flips to reveal the DC logo. It’s understated, yet cool, and it left fans to wonder whether the simple intro would stay the same or change from project to project depending on the character(s) featured in the movie or show.

So one fan took to social media platform Bluesky to ask James Gunn, who is historically very open with fans, about the plan for DC’s logo.

The fan said, "I was surprised to see the Superman DC ID at the start. Will all DC stuff use the Superman ID, or will the character featured change based on [the] project?" Gunn responded, "He's our MGM lion. It will usually be him."

It makes sense to build this new world around Superman. I can’t wait to see what Gunn does with the character, and all the new stories he is taking on at DC.

Superman stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan bring to Superman and Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.

Superman will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
