James Gunn Denies Recent Rumors Regarding SUPERMAN: LEGACY and JUSTICE LEAGUE Movie
There are a lot of rumors spreading across the internet regarding what James Gunn is doing with DC Studios’ slate of films including Superman: Legacy and a live-action Justice League movie.
Gunn recently confirmed that Superman: Legacy is going to be filled with lots of other Superhero characters including Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific. They will join the stars of the film David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
With several superhero characters being introduced in the film, it’s being reported that the movie was ordered by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in order to attract potential buyers. Gunn saw the report on social media and denied the story on Threads, saying “Of course not.”
In case you’re wondering why Gunn is utilizing all these characters in his Superman story, he said: “They fit the story I’m telling. Story always comes first.”
Then, over the weekend at Comic-Con, DC announced an animated Justice League movie with Crisis on Infinite Earths that would be released in 2024. For some crazy reason, this caused people to believe that this means that Gunn will be directing a live-action Justice League film. Gunn shot down that rumor by replying to a fan with a simple “No.”
Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s expected to begin in early 2024, and it’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
