James Gunn Explains How His Job at DC Studios is Different From Kevin Feige's at Marvel Studios

When James Gunn took the role of co-CEO at DC Studios, a lot of fans labeled him as the DC equivalent to Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige. While there is truth to that, there are some big differences between what Gunn does at DC and what Feige does at Marvel.

During an interview on WIRED's Autocomplete Interview YouTube show, James Gunn and his brother Sean Gunn were asked, "Is James Gunn the Kevin Feige of DC?". After laughing at the question, Sean Gunn said, "There's a Venn diagram where what they do is similar, and there's part of it where what they do is different, right?"

James Gunn went on to discuss the differences, saying: "It's actually a little different. I mean, number one, DC Studios is a studio, so it's a little bit different. Peter Safran [co-CEO of DC Studios] does a lot of what Kevin Feige does. A lot of what I do is I just work on the creative side of things. So mapping out the stories and the creative side of the universe is my job much more so than some of the more administrative, executive-type stuff. And Kevin has to do both."

So basically, Gunn has the fun part of the job and Peter Safran has to deal with all the stuff that isn’t fun. Gunn has definitely landed the dream job! Gunn also has time to write and direct projects like Superman: Legacy, Creature Commandos, Waller, and more. You don’t see Feige writing or directing anything because he doesn’t have time. He’s the general leading the charge.

I’m excited to see how Gunn and Safran’s plans turn out. There are a lot of exciting projects in the works, but after seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and being reminded how talented Gunn is, I have a feeling that he’s going to deliver some great DC entertainment.
