James Gunn Gives Update on SUPERMAN: LEGACY Script Saying It's 99.9% Done
Director and DC boss James Gunn is working to organize all the titles in the works at DC Studios, including his own upcoming title, Superman: Legacy, which will kick off a new era of superhero films from the studio. While taking on the job which heads the film division has been a huge undertaking, Gunn has made sure to focus on the movie he will use to usher in his new Superman and the interconnected universe akin to Marvel’s MCU.
In a recent social media interaction, a fan asked Gunn how far along he is on the script for Superman: Legacy, and replied, “99.9%. I’m always changing small things but it’s been essentially done since well before the strike.”
David Corenswet will star in the film as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult has been cast as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion is Green Lantern, Isabela Merced is Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi will play Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, and María Gabriela de Faría is playing Angela Spica, aka The Engineer. It was recently announced that Skyler Gisondo is playing Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio has been cast as Eve Teschmacher, the assistant and sometimes mistress to the scheming villain Lex Luthor.
Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
