James Gunn Reveals First Look at Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen in SUPERMAN
Director James Gunn has given fans a little treat in the form of a photo from the set of his upcoming film, Superman. This photo is a first look at the character Jimmy Olsen, known best from the comics as Superman’s pal from the Daily Planet. Tyler Gisondo (Santa Clarita Diet, The Righteous Gemstones) has taken on the role, and he absolutely looks the part!
Gunn shared in the Instagram post yesterday:
“Happy Anniversary to Superman’s pal, Jimmy Olsen, who debuted on this day in 1941 (although he did appear earlier as an ‘office boy’ in Action Comics 6). Created by Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, and Bob Maxwell. I can’t wait for you to see @skylergisondo’s portrayal in Superman on July 11, 2025.”
The film wrapped shooting at the end of last month, and I was surprised that Gunn didn’t bring any of that footage or at least some cool details to Comic-Con, but with the film a whole year away, I guess he will wait to build the hype until we are a little closer.
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
