James Gunn Says Henry Cavill's Superman Suit Was "Torn To Shreds" During SUPERMAN Screen Tests

Actor Tom Brittney recently talked about auditioning for James Gunn to play the Man of Steel in his upcoming Superman movie.

One thing he revealed is that he tried on Henry Cavill’s Superman suit for a screen test and that he tore it. He explained that “It takes about half an hour to get into it – to get sewn into it.

“And yeah, I think I might have accidentally ripped it. I was more muscular than Henry Cavill, that’s the only reason.”

Gunn was recently asked about this and he confirmed it was true and that Cavil’s suit was actually “torn to shreds.”

The filmmaker said: “Yes. Tom messed it up and then Corenswet came in and he was way too tall, so it just got torn to shreds. BTW, Tom is truly one of my favorite actors. Incredibly talented guy.”

Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.

“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

We’ve also heard that the movie is "a complete shift to hardcore sci-fi and fantasy, the exact opposite of Man of Steel.

"It's set in a world very different from ours and far removed from the DCEU. Heroes have been around for ages, and we'll see how it affected this world's history and has shaped the DCU."

When talking about David Corenswet’s performance as Superman, Gunn said he is going to “blow people the f*ck away.”

Superman stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lios Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.

Superman will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
