James Gunn Shares SUPERMAN Set Photo on the Anniversary of Superman's Debut
Today is the 86th anniversary of the first appearance of Superman in Action Comics #1, which was published on April 18, 1938.
To celebrate the occasion, director James Gunn shared a photo from the set of Superman featuring Gunn, David Corenswet (Clark Kent/Superman) and Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane) paying tribute.
The photo features the trio of talent reading a Superman comic. Gunn is reading a reproduction of Action Comics #1. While Brosnahan is reading All-Star Superman #1, and Corenswet is reading a Golden Age issue of Action Comics.
Gunn said: “On this day in 1938 the first superhero entered our atmosphere via the imaginations of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
“He gave us someone to believe in, not because of his great physical power, but because of his character and determination to do right no matter what. Happy #Superman Day to all of you! #UpUpandAway”
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman also stars Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
