John Carpenter Says a Sequel To THE THING May Happen, But He's "Sworn To Secrecy"

Director John Carpenter recently made an interesting comment about The Thing that will definitely plant some seeds of excitement in fans of the original film. While talking about Creepy Catalog in a recent interview, the filmmaker was asked about the possibility of a sequel and this was his response:

"I have been sworn to secrecy, okay, because there may be, I don't know if there will be, there may be a Thing 2.”

Well, that would be pretty crazy if we actually ended up getting a direct sequel to The Thing. There are no other details regarding what to expect or if Carpenter is even being considered as a director on the project. It would be pretty crazy if someone managed to get Carpenter to direct another movie because it doesn’t seem like he’s motivated to direct anymore. He’s just enjoying his time playing video games. But, if he did come back to direct a sequel to The Thing, fans would flip out!

When previously talking about a possible sequel to The Thing, Carpenter said:

"Maybe The Thing. Maybe Prince of Darkness. I can see a little bit more of that. But we'll see. You never know in this business. You really don't. I just think there's another bit of a story to tell there, which I'm not going to tell you about. But there have been some discussions about The Thing and what we could do because, as far as we know, both those two main characters -- Childs [Keith David] and MacReady [Kurt Russell] -- are still alive. They were alive at the end of The Thing, so maybe they're still alive."

I’d actually be curious to see a sequel to The Thing, I have no idea if it will actually happen, but if it did, if Carpenter doesn’t direct, who do you think would be a good director to take it on?
