JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 Sees John "Come to Terms" With The Consequences of his Actions

John Wick fans have been loving the footage that has been released for John Wick: Chapter 4! This movie is going to deliver some epically hardcore action, but what is the state of mind of John Wick (Keanu Reeves) as he continues to fight for his life? Well, director Chad Stahelski recently shared some insight on that in an interview with Total Film.

Stahelsky said: "In John Wick 4, I would say, John comes to terms with how what he does affects people that he cares about. There's always got to be consequences for your actions. And in this, we're starting to see that John understands what the consequences are." He pauses. "Not that it curbs him in any way."

He went on to talk about what influenced him on this movie, saying: "I'm a huge fan of Chambara films – sword-fighting films, samurai films – from Harakiri to Seven Samurai. I can literally name off all 26 episodes of Zatoichi plus the TV shows! So, obviously, that's a huge influence. This one has a very Japanese theme to it. It's about a certain code, whether it's friendship or the art of living. Even though everyone in the movie is a bad guy, there's a code."

One other thing that he teased in the interview was that Donnie Yen and Keanu Reeves “will have their moment” in the movie, which I imagine means we are going to see them fight, which is gonna be awesome to watch!

I love where the director’s head is at with this next chapter of the story! Keanu Reeves recently talked about his time making the movie saying that, "John Wick 4 is the hardest movie I've ever made. In terms of action, it's the hardest film I've ever made. But that's what makes it good."

Reeves also shared some additional info, saying, "There's a lot of people that are coming after [Wick], and there [are] a lot of different kinds of scenes that are fun for the action." The Matrix actor then teased an action sequence revolving around the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, describing it as "a fight scene in traffic."

He went on to say: "The table is this world above the world; and the people, the assassins, under the table are as boundless as the grains of sand on the beach. So there [are] a lot of people coming after John Wick. But really, for the John Wick film[s], it's really just the invention of the scene, right? How can you do these scenes?"

The last trailer that was released was filled with brutal action-packed mayhem and saw John Wick getting himself in all kinds of crazy situations and facing off with a ridiculous amount of assassins who are going to attempt to kill him.

When previously talking about the film, Stahelski previously teased what we can expect from the next John Wick story, saying: “If you took The Good, The Bad And The Ugly, crossed it with Zatoichi, and threw in a Greek myth, you’d probably get something close to this. And who else f**king says those kinds of sentences? Now you know why I like doing John Wicks.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 features a cast that also includes Donnie Freakin’ Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Rina Sawayama, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Clancy Brown, Ian McShane, and Bill Skarsgard as the sinister main villain.

The movie is scheduled to open in theaters on May 27th, 2023.
