Karen GIllan Wants to Play Poison Ivy in DCU in a Story That Explores a Romance With Harley Quinn
Karen Gillan has made it clear in the past that she would love to play Poison Ivy in James Gunn’s DCU, and this is something that the fans would love to see happen as well. Gillian has worked with Gunn in the past on the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, so it is very possible that one day he will ask her to join the DCU.
When previously talking about wanting to play Poison Ivy, she said: "I always thought that Poison Ivy was really fun. So maybe something like that would be cool. Honestly, if James asked me to play an alien that sits in the background of a shot and doesn’t talk, I would say yes [laughs]. Because working with him has been one of the great joys of my career so far."
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, the actress was asked to elaborate on which version of Poison Ivy she'd like to play, and she responded: "Oooh. That’s a good question. [Poison Ivy] in a relationship with Harley Quinn sounds excellent."
The big question is, what DC movie will Poison Ivy make her big debut in? I would think it could most likely be Batman: The Brave and The Bold. When previously talking about that project, Gunn said: “So this is the introduction of the DCU Batman, Bruce Wayne, and also introducing our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch, assassin murderer, who he unwittingly takes on, who's Batman's actual son that he doesn't know exists for the first eight to 10 years of his life, and he brings into his life and this is a story. It's a very strange sort of father son story about the two of them. And it's based on Grant Morrison's run on the Batman. There's a couple of comic book writers that have been exceptionally influential on our stuff and Grant Morrison and Tom King are probably the two primary ones.”
The Flash director Andy Muschietti is set to direct the film and three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, Hugo, Skyfall) is supposedly writing the film for DC Studios.
We’ll just have to wait and see how things play out, but I think it’s safe to assume that one day Gunn will introduce Poison Ivy to the DCU, we’ll just have to wait and see who he ends up casting in the role.
