Kevin Feige Confirms THE FANTASTIC 4 Takes Place in Alternate-Reality and Revels When The Film Starts Shooting
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige recently offered an update on The Fantastic 4 confirming the film will indeed be set in the ‘60s in an alternate-reality and he also announced when the film will start shooting.
While on The Official Marvel Podcast, Feige clarified the setting for the film, saying: "Yes, yes, very much so. It is a period. There were a lot of smart people, who noticed that that cityscape didn't look exactly like the New York that we know, or that existed in the '60s in our world. Those are smart observations, I'll say."
He added: "I'm extremely excited by it because I think [the Fantastic Four] are mainstays, are legendary pillars of the Marvel Universe that we've never gotten to play with or explore in a significant way outside of Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness and a few fun teases before, in the way that we're doing it in that film. So I'm extremely excited for that."
As for when the film starts shooting, Feige said: "We start shooting at the end of July. The day after Comic-Con [International: San Diego] is the first day of filming on Fantastic Four."
When asked which of the upcoming Marvel movie projects he's most excited about, Feige said The Fantastic Four and the next two Avengers movies. He also said Wonder Man is "extremely different than anything we've done before."
The movie stars Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby (Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning) as Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman; Joseph Quinn (Stranger Things) as Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch; and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Punisher, The Bear) as Ben Grimm, aka the Thing.
Paul Walter Houser also recently was cast in the project in an unknown role, Natasha Lyonne, and Julia Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna) will take on the role of Shalla-Bal, who is an incarnation of Silver Surfer. Ralph Ineson will play Galactus.
The screenplay comes from Josh Friedman, who was brought in to rewrite the script originally written by Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.
The movie will start shooting mid-summer in England. The Fantastic 4 will hit theaters on July 25, 2025.
