Kit Harington Says His Jon Snow GAME OF THRONES Spinoff Is "Off the Table"
A couple of years ago, it was revealed that Kit Harington was developing a Game of Thrones spinoff series that would focus on Jon Snow. The actor has now offered an update on the project, and it’s no longer in development.
During an interview with ScreenRant, the actor said that team “couldn’t find the right story to tell” so the project is not in active development anymore. It’s “off the table.”
He said: “I hadn’t really ever spoken about it, because it was in development. I didn’t want it leaked out that it was being developed. I didn’t want the thing to happen where people kind of start theorizing, getting either excited about it or hating the idea of it, when it may never happen. Because in development, you look at every angle, and you see whether it’s worth it.”
He continued: “And currently, it’s not. Currently, it’s off the table, because we all couldn’t find the right story to tell that we were all excited about enough. So, we decided to lay down tools with it for the time being. There may be a time in the future where we return to it, but at the moment, no. It’s firmly on the shelf.”
Author George R.R. Martin is the guy who originally confirmed the series was in development saying: “It was Kit Harrington who brought the idea to us. I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific.”
In the final season of Game of Thrones, Snow discovered his true identity as Aegon Targaryen, and he could be an heir to the Iron Throne. At the end of the series he was exiled from Westeros, and he traveled into the Haunted Forest, North of the Wall, with Ghost and the Wildlings to start a new life.
I’m perfectly fine with this series as I never really saw Jon Snow as an interesting character. There are two other spinoffs in the works right now including Season 2 of House of the Dragon and the upcoming A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which is about to go into production.
