Krypto Confirmed for James Gunn's SUPERMAN: LEGACY
It looks like Krypto the Superdog will appear in writer and director James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy movie. The confirmation came from an interview with Toronto Sun in which he joked that Chris Pratt could play the Superdog in the upcoming movie.
Pratt responded in the moment, saying, "It sounds like there's going to be a character called Krypto in Superman – breaking news," Gunn confirmed, "It is a scoop, I guess."
So, it looks like we will see Krypto make his live-action debut in Superman: Legacy! I can’t say I’m surprised as Gunn seems to enjoy playing with animal characters in his film projects. It makes sense that he’d throw Krypto into the mix.
The movie will introduce a new version of Superman, and it will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Gunn also previously confirmed that Jimmy Olsen will appear in the movie. As of right now, Gunn and his team are in the casting process of the film and pre-production kicked off last month, with costumes, production design “and more” are now “up and running.” No casting has been announced yet, but that should come soon as Gunn has found his Superman.
As for Krypto, the Kryptonian dog made his debut in Adventure Comics in a Superboy story in 1955. He possesses all of the sun-born abilities of Superman, as well as super-canine intelligence.
Superman: Legacy is the first film to be released for DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Are you excited to see Krypto in the film!?
