Krypto’s Involvement in James Gunn's SUPERMAN Teased by Comic Writer
Last year, it was confirmed that Clark Kent’s dog Krypto would be a part of James Gunn’s Superman. The confirmation came from an interview where it was suggested that Chris Pratt could play the Superdog in the upcoming movie.
Pratt responded in the moment, saying, "It sounds like there's going to be a character called Krypto in Superman – breaking news," Gunn then confirmed, "It is a scoop, I guess."
Now, we have a little reminder and a tease that Krypto will indeed appear in the movie. The update comes from comic writer Mark Waid while a guest on the Capes and Lunatics Podcast.
He said: “I like Gunn’s reverential approach by and large to this kind of stuff, and you know reverential without taking it too seriously. I mean, the movie has a dog in it, a superpowered dog with heat vision.”
I’m not surprised that Gunn would include Krypto in his Superman movie. Including the character is something that, of course, he was going to do!
Waid is known for his work on comics such as Kingdom Come and Batman/Superman: World’s Finest.
Filming on Superman wrapped in July 2024, and the movie is set for release on July 11, 2025. The movie will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas.
“He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
