Marvel's SHANG-CHI 2 Will Come After Either AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY or AVENGERS: SECRET WARS
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu recently did a little “Ask Me Anything” session on the new Threads social media platform. During that session, the actor was asked about the status of Shang-Chi 2 and he revealed that it would happen after Avengers, but he didn’t specify what Avengers movie it was. He said:
"Was told it would follow avengers but that keeps pushing back due to circumstances beyond my control :( hope to have more concrete news to share soon."
There are two upcoming Avengers movies that have been announced. There are Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, both of which have been pushed back and will be released in 2026 and 2027.
Only three films have been announced for Phase 6 so far which include the two Avengers movies and Fantastic Four. So, Shang Chi 2 could very well end up being a part of Phase 6. But, if’ it’s not I guess that means we can expect it in Phase 7.
I enjoyed the first Chang-Chi movie! It was awesome to see a fantasy martial arts film in the MCU and I hope that they continue to have fun with that.
As for what we can expect from the sequel, Liu previously teased that the movie would expand the mythos, and hopefully include as much of its ensemble cast as possible:
"Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn't necessarily feel like there's a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed. It feels like we've established a world and there's just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we've spent so much time ideating on and thinking about. And then, we're getting to revisit some things, but also show the viewer new things. We'll deliver all of the amazing action that we were celebrated for on the first movie, but then also hopefully explore new sides of Shaun's character and the characters around him. That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She's on top of the world and just the queen of everything."
