Marvel’s Simu Liu Promises Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom Will Blow Everyone Away in AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY
Marvel fans have been waiting years to see the next big chapter of the MCU unfold, and it looks like Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be something awesomely special.
Simu Liu, who plays Shang-Chi, is currently on set for the massive superhero event, and he couldn’t be more excited about what’s happening behind the scenes.
Speaking with Japanese outlet The River, Liu described the surreal experience of working with such an iconic cast. “Every day feels like a dream. I get to go to work and work with people I respect and admire. Some of them are actors I watched when I was little, even before I wanted to be an actor.
“My emotions are a mix of great feelings and excitement, as well as fear and anxiety. I'm human, after all. I'm with some amazing people, so I do feel anxious at times. But everyone is so wonderful, and it doesn't really feel like work every day.”
The Avengers: Doomsday cast lineup is insane, with more names to be announced later. Of course, the biggest wildcard in the film is Robert Downey Jr., who returns to Marvel not as Tony Stark but as Victor von Doom.
Liu was quick to praise his legendary co-star. “He's been an integral part of Marvel's success and has been in so many films over the years, yet he still takes the time to meet and connect with so many people. Because he's played such a diverse range of roles, I think everyone will be blown away by the way he tackles this new character in this film.”
Liu also called Downey Jr. “such a kind, generous, and inspiring person” on set. For now, Marvel is keeping the story under wraps, but we already know that Doom is lurking somewhere on the same Earth as the Fantastic Four, thanks to The Fantastic Four: First Step post-credit scene.
Whether he crosses into Earth-616 or wages war from his own corner of the multiverse, it’s clear he’ll be the central threat standing against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Before the showdown begins, we’ll see Spider-Man: Brand New Day swing into theaters, setting the stage for what’s next. But the real event comes when Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026. Until then, Marvel fans will just have to keep speculating about how Doom reshapes the future of the MCU.
