Mikey Madison Turns Down Role in Shawn Levy’s STAR WARS Movie With Ryan Gosling
Fresh off her Oscar win for Anora, Mikey Madison was offered a role in Shawn Levy’s Star Wars movie at Lucasfilm, and according to Variety, the actress passed on the part, making it clear she’s not in a hurry to rush from the indie spotlight into the world of blockbuster franchises.
That’s not really a big deal as I attempted to watch Anora recently and couldn’t even get through the movie. I’m not sure how or why that movie got a Best Picture and Best Actress win because from what I saw I didn’t see anything special.
Levy, who recently directed Deadpool & Wolverine, has been quietly developing this Star Wars project since late 2022. It’s being written by Jonathan Tropper (This Is Where I Leave You, The Adam Project), and will be produced under Levy’s 21 Laps banner alongside Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.
What we do know is that the film is expected to be a standalone entry not connected to the Skywalker Saga that wrapped with 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker. That makes it part of Lucasfilm’s ongoing effort to branch out with fresh stories in the galaxy far, far away.
We also know that Ryan Gosling will star in the film and Jodie Comer and Jesse Plemons have also been rumored to be in talks.
This marks the second Star Wars feature currently on the horizon, following The Mandalorian & Grogu, which just wrapped production and is set to hit theaters on May 22, 2026. That project broke the five-year dry spell of new Star Wars films actually getting greenlit.
As for Madison, it’s clear she’s being selective with her next steps after her Oscar win and jumping into the Star Wars franchise isn’t something she wants to do, which is probably a good career choice.
