Quentin Tarantino Will Shoot an 8-Episode Series Next Year and Reveals the Marvel Movie He'd Make
Quentin Tarantino is out promoting his new book Cinema Speculation and at a recent event in New York, the filmmaker revealed that he has plans to shoot an eight-episode series next year in 2023. Tarantino didn’t offer any details on what that production will involve, but it won’t be the first time he’s worked in TV. He previously directed two episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2005. Since then the director was in talks to helm installments of FX’s Justified revival.
The TV project could be Bounty Law, which is the fictional show that Leonardo DiCaprio’s character starred in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He previously said, “I wrote a play and I wrote five episodes of a TV series. It’s Bounty Law.” He previously explained:
“From watching the different old Western shows and everything, I did it to get in the head of Bounty Law. I ended up starting to really like the idea of Jake Cahill, as a character. I really started loving those half hour ’50s Western scripts. The idea that you could write something like 24 minutes, where there was so much story crammed in those half hour shows, with a real beginning and a middle and an end. Also it was kind of fun because you can’t just keep doubling down and exploring. At some point, you’ve got to wrap it up. I really liked that idea. I’ve written five different episodes for a possible Bounty Law black-and-white half hour Western show.”
If it’s not Bounty Law, I don’t know what he’s planning, but I would love to see him develop that series! If he’s shooting the project next year, I’m sure we’ll find out soon enough.
During the event, he was also asked what comic book he would adapt if he was given the choice, and Tarantino said that he’d be down to make a film based on Marvel Comics’ Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos, which would be perfect for him! That was actually an influence on his movie Inglourious Basterds. Sgt. Fury follows Nick Fury and the escapades of the eponymous World War II unit, which appeared in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Tarantino recently said that he would never direct a Marvel movie because he’s not “a hired hand,” but he’s obviously somewhat open to the idea!
