Reason Why James Gunn Is Not Promoting SUPERMAN to Comic-Con

While DC is showing up at Comic-Con to promote some of their projects, James Gunn is not showing up to promote his movie Superman. Even though they’ve been shooting the film and there’s plenty of footage they could show, they don’t think it’s ready.

Gunn's DC Studio partner, Peter Safran, recently talked to The Wrap and he offered an explanation as to why they decided to skip the epic geek event this year.

Safran said: "From my perspective, it's just too soon. A year is truthfully a long time for a campaign and so, from our perspective, I think we go stronger and harder over a shorter period, rather than stretching it out. That's our instinct on that."

While the movie side of DC Studios won’t be presented, they will be showing off stuff for The Penguin and, maybe, hopefully, Creature Commandos, an animated series that serves as the first official launch of the new DC Universe.

Safran also said that while Superman is very close to completion, Gunn hasn't finished actually shooting the movie yet.

He continued: "James hasn't wrapped yet. I think when you put your first foot forward, for us, for our first theatrical live-action experience, there's a lot of expectation on that.

“And we really have to make sure we deliver every step of the way, but certainly with the first time out. So that's why we opted not to be there."

Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman also stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.

Superman will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
