Rosario Dawson Reveals Ahsoka's Transition in STAR WARS: AHSOKA Was Inspired By Gandalf
Ahsoka Tano has had quite the journey since she was first introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The long, intense and emotional journey is going to continue with Dave Filoni’s upcoming live-action series Star Wars: Ahsoka.
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rosario Dawson, who plays the live-action version of Ahsoka, talked about playing the older version of the character and said that the transition that the character has made was inspired by Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. She explained:
"In the animation, you saw her go to the white, but what I loved is the idea that there was even another level to her. Dave [FIloni] and I talked a lot about Gandalf the Gray and Gandalf the White – talking about that transition and how she's someone very capable and excellent and looked up to as a leader, but she still has levels of development to go."
I like the comparison of these two characters, it makes sense. It also makes sense that Ahsoka still isn’t finished evolving and growing. The character wouldn’t be as interesting if she didn’t still have levels of development ahead of her.
It’s going to be awesome to see her story continue over the course of this new series and over the course of the franchise as these Star Wars shows and movies continue. This series isn’t going to be the last that we see of Ahsoka Tano.
Ahsoka is set “after the fall of the Empire, Star Wars: Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.” The show will pick up where Star Wars Rebels left off and the search for Ezra Bridger begins.
That threat is Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), who we get a first look at in the trailer, and Ezra took off with him to an unknown location. Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) joins Ahsoka on her journey, and she is still very much dedicated to finding Ezra. They will be joined by Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and the droid, Chopper, and Zeb will also most likely return.
The series also stars Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Ivanna Sakhno, Eman Esfandi as Ezra, Ray Stevenson as Baylon, and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati.
The limited series is written by Dave Filoni who executive produces along with Jon Favreau and Kathleen Kennedy.
Ahsoka will debut on Disney+ on August 23, 2023.
