Rosario Dawson Wants To Keep Playing Ahsoka in STAR WARS and Continue To Work with Dave Filoni
Rosario Dawson is all in on playing Ahsoka in the Star Wars universe and doesn’t want it to end for her. She made her big debut as the live-action version of Ahsoka in The Mandalorian Season 2 and will return for her very own Disney+ series with Star Wars: Ahsoka and she doesn’t want her journey as the character to end there.
During a recent interview with Total Film magazine, Dawson was asked if she sees a lot more to explore with the character, and she said:
"I mean, I do, and I hope [Filoni] does. I really marvel at Dave's journey, and I'm so happy for him and proud of him. I've loved him as a fan, and now, having had the chance to be on set with him daily and work with him, and pick his brain, and him being my own personal encyclopaedia for everything Star Wars and beyond – it's just been a marvel."
I just love that Dawson is so invested in this character and wants to keep going for as long as she can. I’m sure that she will be on for the ride at least, all the way through the Star Wars movie that Filoni is developing. That's where his whole New Republic-era story is all headed. Dawson went on to praise Filoni, saying:
"I think he's one of the greatest I've ever worked with in this medium and in this space, and I hope that he continues to bring Ahsoka along. Because he's been very loyal to her over the years, and she to him. That's not going away any time soon. So any kind of way and iteration that I can keep working with Dave, and being inspired by him, and challenging him when I can – it would be awesome."
Ahsoka has been a fan-favorite character ever since she was introduced in the Star Wars universe as Anakin Skywalker’s teenage apprentice. She’s been on a wild journey and that journey is going to get even more exciting and interesting.
Her next story picks up where the animated series, Star Wars Rebels, left off. She finds herself once again teaming up with Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and more as they continue their journey to find Ezra. They are also on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn, who is with Ezra.
It’s explained in an interview with Empire that Ahsoka will find a new purpose in the story. She doesn’t consider herself a Jedi, and when talking about her character and the place that she’s in now with her life, Filoni previously said:
“She’s a wanderer at this point, and is in a lot of ways wary of any organisation as such because of the power that comes with it as a group. She walks a path that basically died out a long time ago, and there aren’t many like her left, if any. So that’s a lonely thing. What is that life like? If you are a loner, you have a very small circle of friends. What is it like, then, when you try to open back up?”
Mary Elizabeth Winstead is also set to star in the series and is playing Hera Syndulla, and the droid, Chopper, also returns. On top of that, we’ve got Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, Ivanna Sakhno, Eman Esfandi as Ezra, and Ray Stevenson. The limited series is written by Filoni who executive produces along with Jon Favreau and Kathleen Kennedy.
The series will debut exclusively on Disney+ in August 2023.
