Sam Raimi Gave Kirsten Dunst a Book of Famous Kisses Before Shooting Iconic SPIDER-MAN Kiss
In Sam Raimi’s classic film Spider-Man, Kirsten Dunst and Tobey Maguire delivered one of the most iconic movie kisses in movie history. Dunst recently talked about the experience of shooting that scene while a guest on the Jonathan Ross Show, and it turned out to be a miserable experience for her.
She also revealed that before they shot the scene, Raimi wanted to inspire her and gave her a book of famous kisses. She recalled:
“I remember [the film’s director] Sam Raimi giving me a book of famous kisses to be inspired but also he really wanted to make it special even though it was kind of miserable actually doing it.
“It was pouring with rain, freezing, Tobey couldn’t breathe so it was almost like I was resuscitating him.”
Regardless of how miserable the experiences was, the scene looks great in the movie! They managed to pull it off and make it look good under the uncomfortable circumstances. I just want to say that I loved Dunst in the role of MJ! She was perfect for it!
In a previous interview, Dunst opened up about the nickname she was given on the set of the film, "Girly-Girl" and how she hated it. "It was a joke, but on Spider-Man, they would call me 'girly-girl' sometimes on the walkie-talkie. 'We need girly-girl', but I never said anything. Like, don't call me that. You didn't say anything. You just took it."
If given the opportunity, though, Dunst would return to the role or any other comic book movie, “Because you get paid a lot of money, and I have two children, and I support my mother.” She went on to say, “I would do it. Why not? That would be fun. I’d be old MJ at this point with little Spidey babies.”
