Scarlet Witch’s MCU Future Takes Shape With Promising New Report
Scarlet Witch fans might want to brace themselves because things are getting interesting again. After years of uncertainty surrounding Wanda Maximoff’s fate in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a new update suggests Elizabeth Olsen isn’t done exploring one of Marvel’s most powerful and complicated characters.
The last time audiences saw Scarlet Witch was in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Wanda’s story appeared to come to a tragic end. The film showed her using chaos magic to destroy Mount Wundagore and every version of the Darkhold across the multiverse.
The mountain collapsed on her in the process, leaving her fate deliberately unclear. Since then, the character has been noticeably absent from the MCU, fueling constant speculation about whether she survived.
Rumors have swirled for a while that Olsen could return in Avengers territory, possibly in Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars. So far, Marvel has stayed quiet.
But according to insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is reportedly developing a Scarlet Witch solo project that would be produced during the Mutant Saga. That detail is a big deal, especially with mutants and the X-Men finally set to take center stage.
Olsen herself has made it clear she’d happily come back. Speaking in November 2025, she said, “I want to see [her] return in this role because I think what they’ve done with her is really great, and I love the journey she’s taken.” It’s a genuine statement that lines up with how invested she’s always seemed in Wanda’s emotional arc.
That investment extends to where the character could go next. During a ComicCon LA appearance in September 2025, Olsen talked about a specific X-Men storyline she’d love to see adapted.
“I mean, I just think that House of M is just the coolest. I don’t [know] how to make it make sense… Maybe there’s some fan pitches or theories out there. But I just think it could be so fun to deal with X-Men and Avengers, and ‘No more mutants,'” she said.
Given Wanda’s central role in that comic storyline, it’s hard not to see why fans immediately connected this comment to the Mutant Saga rumors.
Avengers: Secret Wars is widely rumored to close out the Multiverse Saga with a soft reboot that streamlines Marvel’s timeline. That kind of reset would make it much easier to bring Wanda back into the fold, especially alongside the Avengers, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and the X-Men.
While a reboot often raises concerns about recasting, it was reported that Scarlet Witch would not be recast, keeping Olsen firmly tied to the role.
For now, it’s all still unofficial, but the direction feels promising. Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
If Scarlet Witch does return during or after those events, it could be pretty exciting!
