SHANG-CHI Star Simu Liu Says Marvel is Still Definitely Making a Sequel

Several years ago it was announced that Marvel Studios was developing a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, but a lot has changed since that news dropped.

As you know, Marvel has been making a lot of behind-the-scenes changes to their movie and TV line-up and how they make those projects. It’s hard to know if every previously announced project will actually happen, but it seems like Marvel is still planning to make Shang-Chi 2.

During a recent interview with The Press Trust of India, Shang-Chi star Simu Liu confirmed a sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is still “definitely happening” at Disney and Marvel.

He said: “A lot of it is above my pay grade but it’s definitely happening. So, just very excited to kind of work on it and it’s going to be amazing. I really can’t say anything beyond that.”

There were previous reports that the movie would come after either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.

As for what we can expect from the sequel, Liu previously teased that the movie would expand the mythos, and hopefully include as much of its ensemble cast as possible:

"Going into a sequel feels exciting. It doesn't necessarily feel like there's a pressure to perform or a pressure to exceed. It feels like we've established a world and there's just something really nostalgic and exciting about returning to that world that we've spent so much time ideating on and thinking about.

“And then, we're getting to revisit some things, but also show the viewer new things. We'll deliver all of the amazing action that we were celebrated for on the first movie, but then also hopefully explore new sides of Shaun's character and the characters around him.

“That is, of course, if we can still afford Michelle Yeoh. She's on top of the world and just the queen of everything."

Shang-Chi does return for Marvel’s upcoming animated series Marvel Zombies, which looks like a lot of fun!

Are you a fan of Shang-Chi and do you hope to see him back in action in the MCU?
