Sigourney Weaver Says She's Met Grogu as She Starts Shooting THE MANDALORIAN & GROGU
Sigourney Weaver is going to make her big Star Wars debut in director Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian & Grogu. We have no idea who she’s playing, but she recently said that she’s met Grogu as she is getting ready to start shooting the film.
During an interview with Deadline, Weaver shared: "I’m playing a role in The Mandalorian & Grogu. I got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day."
The actress then revealed that filming for her role will wrap before the end of this year. I’m curious to know who she is playing in the film, the kind of Star Wars character that she’ll be taking on. Regardless, fans are hyped that Weaver is making her big Star Wars debut!
All we know about the movie is that it will pick up in the aftermath of The Mandalorian Season 3. The Mandalorian & Grogu might also be the start of a trilogy that will also include Dave Filoni's untitled movie that will bring this whole New Republic saga together.
Favreau previously shared a statement with the film’s announcement, saying: “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni will produce The Mandalorian & Grogu.
This will be the first Star Wars film to start production and be released since Episode IX: The Rise of the Skywalker.
The Mandalorian & Grogu is set to be released on May 22, 2026.
The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal will reprise his role, alongside Baby Yoda, a.k.a. Grogu of course. One Star Wars character who will not be making an appearance is Boba Fett. The Book of Boba Fett star Temuera Morrison recently revealed the news, adding that the spin-off show’s bad reception may have affected the future of his character forever.
The last time we saw Mando and his little Grogu in The Mandalorian season 3, the pair had settled down together on Nevarro with Mando officially adopting Grogu as his own son. Now, the duo will embark on their very own feature film, the first Star Wars movie since The Rise of Skywalker dropped in 2019.
For now, Disney is keeping a tight lid on plot details for The Mandalorian & Grogu. However, some sneak peek footage was shown at D23 2024 which saw Grogu as Din Djarin's bounty hunter apprentice. The clip also featured appearances from some Babu Friks, the Razor Crest, and Zeb Orrelios, and included some shots of a faraway snowy planet.
No wider cast list for The Mandalorian & Grogu has been revealed at this moment. The movie is directed by The Mandalorian series creator Jon Favreau with Ahsoka creator Dave Filoni and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy producing.
