SUPERMAN Director James Gun Responds to Krypto Design Criticisms, "He's an Alien"
James Gunn recently shared a first look at Krypto the Superdog, who is set to appear in his upcoming film DC film Superman, and not everyone is sold on the design of the dog.
This take on Krypto was heavily inspired by Gunn’s own dog, Ozu, and some fans have made it known that the canine character won't be depicted as a white Lab.
While Krypto is often drawn as a Lab or Golden Retriever in the comics, he has resembled other dog breeds over the years. Then there’s the fact that at the end of the day, Krypto is an alien.
Gunn responded to the criticism, saying: “No. Krypto is historically a generic white dog, sometimes also a lab, white shepherd, husky, or Dalmation. But obviously, he’s an alien so he wouldn’t necessarily be exactly any one of these things.”
Gunn also confirmed that Krypto won't talk, only bark. I personally like the design of Krypto!
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
