SUPERMAN: LEGACY Star Rachel Brosnahan Talks About What Drew Her to the Role of Lois Lane

Emmy-winning actress Rachel Brosnahan is known for her starring role in the series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a character she elevated to another level with comedy and heart. Now she will bring that gumption to the iconic role of Lois Lane in director James Gunn’s DC feature, Superman: Legacy.

When the actress appeared on the SAG Awards red carpet, Variety asked Brosnahan what drew her to the role, and she said:

"I grew up on the Donner Superman movies with Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder. I have always loved Lois Lane. She's smart and ambitious and can be funny, and she knows that she's the smartest person in the room more often than not. I've just always loved this character so when the opportunity came around- I've been such a fan of James Gunn from afar."

Variety also asked about the table read and the viral cast photo that Gunn recently shared, and Brosnahan confirmed that actual filming starts next week, saying:

"Yes, we start shooting next week...It's been moving around a little bit but some pieces are being shot next week and then some, the week afterward."

Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

James Gunn also previously revealed that the film will skip the origin story for Superman and dive right into the meat of his story.

Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer.

Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
