The JOHN WICK Spin-Off Series THE CONTINENTAL Gets a Premiere Date
Peacock announced that its upcoming John Wick three-part prequel series The Continental is going to premiere on Friday, September 22, with Episode 2 coming on September 29, and the third and final episode will air on October 6th.
This bit of news was announced at Comic-Con over the weekend where they shared a few action-packed clips from the series. I was there to watch the footage and they definitely don’t hold back on the blood and violence!
There was one scene in particular that took place in a stairwell with one assassin being attacked by a horde of villains that are out to kill him. It was non-stop hardcore gun-fu action and it’s the kind of action that is going to make John Wick Fans happy.
The story for the series will be told through the eyes and actions of Winston Scott, “who is dragged into the Hell-scape of a 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he’d left behind. Winston charts a deadly course through New York’s mysterious underworld in a harrowing attempt to seize the iconic hotel, which serves as the meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.”
Executive producer Basil Iwankyk said: “The four Wick films take place over a three-month span … John is either chasing, or being chased. There has been no time to take a breath, to allow the audience to dig deeper into the world and its denizens.”
He added: “In our show, The Continental, we finally have space to explore these characters, how they became who they are, and how The Continental became the epicenter of this world. Combine that with introducing new characters that are as compelling as any in the John Wick universe. Action that’s crazy cool and inventive. Easter eggs that will excite the hardcore Wick fans. And what I love the most: a vision of ‘70s New York that embodies the sexiness, edginess, and visceral style that the franchise is known for. This show will look/sound/smell cooler than any show out there.”
The series stars Colin Woodell as a young Winston Scott; Ayomide Adegun, who will portray a young Charon (based on Lance Reddick’s character); Peter Greene, who dons the fedora of Uncle Charlie (based on the tight-lipped body disposal expert); Mel Gibson as Cormac; Ben Robson as Frankie; Hubert Point-Du Jour as Miles; Jessica Allain as Lou; Mishel Prada as KD; and Nhung Kate as Yen.
Chris Mansolillo, Director, Content Acquisition, Prime Video said in a statement: “The John Wick films have created one of the most immersive, detailed and enjoyable universes we’ve seen on screen in the last decade. We are extremely proud to play a part in continuing to build that universe, offering viewers an insight into the origins of the infamous Continental Hotel and its incredible characters.”
The series is being written and executive produced by Greg Coolidge (Wayne, Ride Along) and Kirk Ward (Wayne), who also serve as showrunners. David Leitch, Derek Kolstad, Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, Paul Wernick, and Rhett Reese will also serve as executive producers.
The three-part event will hit Peacock later this year, in September 2023.
