THUNDERBOLTS Actor Wyatt Russell Says the Film Is "Not a Straightforward Marvel Movie"

According to Wyatt Russell, who plays US Agent in the MCU, Marvel’s Thunderbolts isn't going to be just any regular Marvel movie. During a recent panel hosted by MTV's Josh Horowitz, Russell explained that he believes Thunderbolts is going to be unique and he’s very confident that it will be a film that fans love… even though he hasn’t read a full script for the film yet. He said:

"I know [director Jake Schrier] so well and I know how smart Jake is and how much he cares about making something interesting and different and utilizing everyone's talents to the best of their ability. And the story that I think they've come up with is really interesting — I know parts of the story and how the story works, I can't talk about it.”

The actor has a lot of confidence in the film’s director Jake Schrier, and he went on to explain that this isn’t going to be the kind of Marvel movie we’ve seen in the past, saying:

"But it's not a straightforward Marvel movie as you've seen in the past. I think that it's gonna be a lot of fun but I think it will be something that hopefully Marvel fans will look at and go, 'Oh OK, this is a little different, let's go hard at it.' And as far as how we are approaching it, it's time to go to work a little bit, it's time to make a good Marvel movie so let's do that and work hard at it and don't take things for granted."

I hope that the Thunderbolts movie does end up being a great and unique Marvel movie! I like the thought of these Marvel characters coming together for an adventure and it would be nice for the film to tell a strong story with them.

The movie has a great ensemble cast that includes Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes the leader of the Thunderbolts team, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and of course, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. Then there’s Harrison Ford, who is taking on the role of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross who is going to be President of the United States in Captain America: New World Order. Ayo Edebiri also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

Thunderbolts is currently set for release on July 25, 2025.
