Marvel Pauses Production on THUNDERBOLTS as the Writer's Strike Continues

A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Marvel Studios was going to push forward with production on films such as Blade, Deadpool 3, and Thunderbolts during the writer’s strike. Well, now the production on one of those projects is pausing.

Thunderbolts was set to start shooting in three weeks in Atlanta, but that’s no longer the cast as the crew was recently notified that production will not be moving forward. But, the plan is to resume production after the strike ends.

We recently learned that while Deadpool 3 is shooting, Ryan Reynolds isn’t allowed to improvise dialogue while shooting because of the strike.

Thunderbolts is being directed by Jake Schreier with a script being worked on by Lee Sung Jin, the creator and showrunner of Netflix’s Beef.

Lee previously said of writing the script: “I’m rewriting it. It’s the whole squad again. Jake asked me if I would come on board. I probably should have taken a break, but there’s a lot of themes and exciting things about the movie that I couldn’t help but sign on.”

He added: “It’s truly an honor to be part of a Marvel thing, but it is very different. One, it’s not my project, it’s Jake’s. It’s such a large scope and scale that the type of writing is very different. At the same time, the process feels the same, I’m still talking to Jake every day. … I think once you find the squad of people you love and trust and are so talented, you do everything you can to keep working with them.”

The movie has a great ensemble cast that includes Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julie Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and of course, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova. Then there’s Harrison Ford, who is taking on the role of General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross who is going to be President of the United States in Captain America: New World Order. Ayo Edebiri also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.

We don’t know much about what the story for Thunderbolts will entail, but recently learned a new detail about the Thunderbolts team from Kevin Feige, and he shared that Bucky Barnes is set to lead the team in the movie.

Thunderbolts is set to premiere on July 26th, 2023.
