Vincent D’Onofrio Reacts to DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Ending With Season 3
The end is officially coming for Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. Just days after Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again was confirmed to be ending with its third season, Vincent D’Onofrio has shared a message with fans as he prepares to say goodbye to Kingpin once again.
D’Onofrio reflected on the series and thanked everyone who stuck with it, while also teasing some cool things coming in the final season. He wrote:
"We so enjoyed bringing Daredevil: Born Again to you all. You stuck with us, and I like to think we stuck with you. We have the final Season, season 3 heading your way next year with some very cool stuff. Much love to all who have been supportive. I love that character Fisk. Always will."
D’Onofrio has spent more than a decade playing Wilson Fisk, first stepping into the role in Netflix’s Daredevil in 2015. After that series ended, Marvel brought him into the MCU for Hawkeye, followed by Echo and eventually Daredevil: Born Again.
The news that Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will be its last arrived on Monday, following weeks of cancellation rumors. The ending also comes with another major change for the Marvel series.
Marvel has also parted ways with showrunner Dario Scardapane after his contract expired and "was not renewed." Scardapane was involved in filming the third season, but he reportedly won’t be part of the post-production process as Marvel finishes the series.
Production itself is already pretty far along. Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 wrapped filming in August and is reportedly in the final stages of production.
Marvel hasn’t released an official synopsis yet, but details from filming have given fans a good idea of just how much the final season is bringing to the table. Leaked set photos revealed that Elektra is returning despite her apparent death, while the long-awaited Defenders reunion is finally happening.
Mike Colter is returning as Luke Cage and Finn Jones is back as Iron Fist, joining Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones. After years of wondering whether Marvel would ever bring these characters together again, the old crew is finally getting another shot before the series comes to an end.
Season 2 also left plenty of unfinished business. Matt Murdock turned himself in and went to prison, while Fisk accepted a deal that required him to leave New York City. Mr. Charles and Bullseye appeared to make their exits as well, while Jessica Jones reunited with Luke Cage.
That gives the final season a lot to work with, especially with Elektra, Luke Cage and Iron Fist entering the picture.
For D’Onofrio, though, the ending carries some extra weight. Wilson Fisk has become one of his defining roles, and his comment makes it clear that the character still means a lot to him after all these years.
We’ve watched Fisk rise, fall and claw his way back more than once. Now Marvel gets one final season to finish his story alongside Matt Murdock’s.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 arrives next March.
