Zack Snyder Confirms REBEL MOON and ARMY OF THE DEAD is a Shared Universe

A lot of people seem pretty excited about Zack Snyder’s upcoming Rebel Moon sci-fi film project. It looks like it will be a pretty epic space opera. Well, it turns out that this sci-fi franchise that Snyder has been building is also part of the same universe as his Army of the Dead zombie franchise. The filmmaker confirmed this bit of information during an interview with Total Film, saying:

"Army of the Dead has a pretty vast mythology that never made it into the movie. There’s actually a character from Rebel Moon in the Army of the Dead animated series that we never did."

This animated series is titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and it was supposed to be released on Netflix straight after the first two movies, but the project was never completed. Synder went on to explain:

"At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across. In Rebel Moon, they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe.”

So, there you have it. It’s all a shared universe! Snyder also explained that a lot of the work on the Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas animated series was completed, saying: “We did all the scripts and the animatics, and all the voices are recorded. So you could watch it, even in its crazy animatic form – you can watch the whole run.” So, I guess fans are going to want to see that released one day.

Rebel Moon follows a group of ragtag rebels who rise up to fight against a giant, evil Empire. It’s set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius. They dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand against the Tyrant.”

This is a two-part film and each part will come with an R-rated edition that fans can watch as well. The movie stars Charlie Hunnam, Ed Skrein, Bae Doona, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Stuart Martin, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Anthony Hopkins, and Alfonso Herrera.

The two Rebel Moon films are titled A Child of Fire and The Scargiver, which will be released next spring. A Child of Fire is scheduled to arrive on Netflix on December 22nd.
