DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN Boss Talks Luke Cage’s Daughter Possibly Becoming the MCU’s Next Captain America
The Marvel rumor mill is spinning again, and this time it’s centered on a pretty wild idea. Could the daughter of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones eventually become Captain America in the MCU?
It sounds like a big swing, but after the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, fans aren’t pulling this theory out of nowhere. Now, showrunner Dario Scardapane has finally weighed in on the speculation, and his response leaves the door cracked open just enough to keep people talking.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 didn’t just raise the stakes for Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock, it also brought some long-awaited returns. Mike Colter’s Luke Cage and Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones officially stepped into the MCU spotlight together, confirming their relationship and revealing they share a daughter, Danielle Cage-Jones.
That reveal was enough to get longtime Marvel fans fired up, especially those familiar with the deeper comic lore.
When Scardapane was asked about the growing theory that Danielle could one day take up the Captain America mantle, he didn’t exactly shut it down. Instead, he leaned into the uncertainty of Marvel’s long game, saying:
“Isn’t that the question? That is so far out. That’s for the guy who comes five, 10 years from now. I know that in one version of the universe, that is who she is. All that stuff is fun to play with. Who knows, Marvel can always rush the timeline.”
With Marvel Studios constantly exploring alternate timelines and multiverse possibilities, it doesn’t feel out of reach.
In the comics, there’s actually some real fuel behind this theory. In the Earth-15061 timeline, Danielle Cage-Jones grows up to become Captain America after being trained by Natasha Romanoff, also known as Black Widow.
Season 2 also left the MCU in a pretty intense place. Matt Murdock publicly revealed his identity, which is a game-changer moving forward. On top of that, the return of Cage and Jones sets up The Defenders coming together again in Season 3.
Adding Danielle into the mix only expands that potential. Right now, she’s just been introduced, but Marvel has a habit of planting seeds early. If they decide to fast-track her future or explore alternate timelines, fans could eventually see a version of her stepping into a role as iconic as Captain America.
For now, nothing is locked in, but the idea isn’t off the table either.
