Disney CEO Bob Iger Doesn't Rule Out More INDIANA JONES Saying "We'll See" When Asked About It
While Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is going to be Harrison Ford’s final Indiana Jones movie, and people are saying this will be the last film in the franchise, Disney CEO Bob Iger isn’t ruling out a future for the franchise. With Ford’s time as this character at an end, it just makes sense that the franchise would end with him, but maybe not.
When talking about the future of the franchise, Iger didn’t say this would be the last movie. Instead, he said: "The last movie was here 15 years ago. So we'll see."
So, while we may not see another Indian Jones movie anytime soon, he’s leaving the possibility open that maybe somewhere down the line in the future the franchise could be resurrected in some way, without Ford.
At one point, Disney was looking to develop a spinoff series, and they were taking pitches. It was later reported that they decided not to move forward with it. However, if they ever do decide to move forward with a spinoff series, it needs to focus on the adventures of Short Round. It’s the only spinoff or continuation of the franchise that I think fans would be open to.
The movie is set in 1969 during the Space Race, with Indiana Jones being pulled into another grand adventure, which involves Voller, a NASA member and ex-Nazi involved with the Moon landing program, who wants to "rectify the world and make it into a better place as he sees fit." He’s looking to correct the mistakes that Hitler made when he was in power with the Dial of Destiney artifact.
The film comes from producer Steven Spielberg, and it also stars Mads Mikkelsen (Another Round), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Shaunette Renée Wilson (The Resident), and Thomas Kretschmann (Avengers: Age Of Ultron).
The film will open in theaters on June 30, 2023. Do you hope to see more Indiana Jones projects after Ford is done?
