DUNE: PART TWO Is Nearly Three Hours Long
The runtime for Dune: Part Two runtime has been revealed, and at almost three hours long, this is going to be the longest movie that director Denis Villeneuve has made so far. The exact runtime for the sequel is 166 minutes, or about 2 hours and 46 minutes.
With all of the commercials and trailers that you have to sit through when watching a movie these days the full experience of watching this movie will be over three hours long. Sounds like a good time at the movies! Just for comparison, Blade Runner 2049 was 2 hours and 44 minutes long.
The director continues to say that this next film is going to be bigger and more epic than the first one. When previously talking about it he said: “The first movie was more contemplative – a young man discovering a world. Here, it’s a war movie. At the very core is a love story between Paul and Chani. How Paul will gain her trust, how she will open her heart to him, and how they will find a way to free Chani’s world from the Harkonnen grip. It’s a much more emotional movie.”
Dune is a mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, and tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), “a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.”
This next chapter of the story will explore the “mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he endeavors to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.”
The returning cast also includes Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stephen McKinley Henderson. New cast members include Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, and Souheila Yacoub as Shishakli.
The film will be released on March 1, 2024.
