GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 Villain Actor Says He's "Going To Hell" For Being Mean To Animals in The Movie
The reviews for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 are in and for the most part, most people who have seen it so far have loved it! I personally think it’s one of the best Marvel movies that’s been made! I just love these characters and the Guardians franchise so much and this movie closed out the story in an awesome and emotional way.
The story puts a focus on Rocket Raccoon’s past, and that background story tugs on the heartstrings in a variety of different ways. You see, Rocket was transformed into what he is by the film’s villain, The High Evolutionary, who is played by Chukwudi Iwuji, and it was torture for him.
This is all teased in the trailer for the film, and there are other animals involved with The High Evolutionary’s experiments. I won’t get into any details, but if you don’t like seeing animals getting hurt, there are some scenes that will be hard for you to watch in this Marvel movie.
Iwuji, who is an animal lover, recently talked about what it was like for him to shoot these scenes of animal cruelty. It wasn’t that hard for him at first because he was working with on-set humans, but then when he saw the actual footage, the thought entered his head that he was “going to Hell.” During an interview with CB, the actor explained:
"What was helpful was that I was working with Sean Gunn a lot as opposed to any animals, so I was interacting with another actor, but I have to say, the first time I saw -- I was doing an ADR or something and I saw a scene with Rocket's eyes, I literally saw my dog's eyes...I saw his face, and I was like, 'I am going to Hell' when I saw that. It really helped that when I was dealing with the animals, I wasn't really dealing with any animals, because it would have been much harder that way.”
He went on to say that his agent had a hard time talking to him after she saw the footage, saying:
“My agent couldn't talk to me properly for like two days after a screening. She went home and hugged her dog, and was like, 'I don't know how I can talk to you.'"
So, just be prepared for all that when you see the movie. If you are an animal lover, it’s gonna be rough at times. Then outside of the animals, it’s still a super emotional movie, but it’s still a ton of fun!
In the next chapter of the story, "Our beloved band of misfits are settling into life on Knowhere, but it isn't long before their lives are upended by the echoes of Rocket's turbulent past. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him on a dangerous mission to save Rocket's life – a mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them."
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 stars Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Karen Gillan as Nebula, Sean Gunn as Kraglin/on-set Rocket, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, and Vin Diesel as Groot. New additions to the cast also include Will Poulter as Adam Warlock and Chukwudi Iwuji as the High Evolutionary as well as Daniela Melchior, Nico Santos, and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm's Maria Bakalova as Cosmo the Spacedog.
Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 opens in U.S. theaters on May 5.
