Hawkgirl Actress Isabela Merced Shares Her Experience Auditioning For SUPERMAN: LEGACY
We’re going to be seeing a lot of actress Isabela Merced in some big genre projects over the next few years. She will next be seen in Madame Web as Araña. She'll then appear in Alien: Romulus in an undisclosed role. After that, she will show up in HBO’s The Last of Us Season 2 as Ellie's romantic interest Dina. This all leads to appearing in James Gunn's Superman: Legacy as Hawkgirl.
During a recent interview with THR, Merced opened up about the audition process for Superman: Legacy and what it was like for her shooting her screen test with Gunn, saying:
“I was directed by [Gunn] during the [screen] test for [Superman: Legacy], because I auditioned for this. I got to do [the screen test] with my other castmates, and that was really cool. It felt very professional; it was almost like a legitimate shooting day.”
“So I’ve already learned so much about his process, and this man … has the best of the best working for him and they’ve worked together for so long that it’s only up to me to mess it up.”
She went on to say that she's working hard to give the fans the awesome version of Hawkgirl that they deserve, saying:
"I hope that I can understand and take notes and continue training and just be healthy throughout it all. Then I’ll be able to give the fans the performance they deserve."
Merced is a talented young actress, and I’m sure she’s going to be great in the role, especially with Gunn directing her. It’ll be interesting to see how Superman: Legacy sets up the character and if Gunn has any future plans for her beyond that.
Superman: Legacy also stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent / Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer. Sara Sampaio, the Portuguese Victoria’s Secret model, has also been cast as Eve Teschmacher, the assistant and sometimes mistress to the scheming villain Lex Luthor.
Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
