SUPERMAN: LEGACY Star Rachel Brosnahan Comments on Preparing to Play Lois Lane

Superman: Legacy star Rachel Brosnahan has broken her silence on playing Lois Lane in James Gunn’s DC film. She offers new insights into how she's preparing for the role, and what she is hoping for the film.

While on the red carpet of the Golden Globes, the actress was asked what she was going to bring to Lois that we haven’t seen before, she said:

"We've been having a lot of great conversations, David [Corenswet] and I, with James Gunn the director and we've been talking a lot about where this project fits into the canon of the 'Supermans' that we know so hopefully this will be putting our own stamp on things.”

I love that Brosnahan was cast as Lois! She is so perfect for the role, and while she doesn’t reveal much here, I can’t wait to see what her take on the character will be. When whether she'll wear a pair of glasses in the film, which is the worst follow-up question, she responded: "I don't know actually. Maybe. We haven't got that far in the fittings yet."

Phoebe Dynevor, who was previously up for the role of Lois, offered some insight on what this version of Lois Lane will be, explaining that “She saves Superman.” She said:

“It was a whirlwind and then I realized that it was over, but it was great. She saves Superman. She’s the brains; she’s actually the fearless one.”

This is something fans have always known about Lois Lane, but it will be interesting to see how Gunn and Brosnahan put their own stamp on that.

The film also stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer. There’s also Sara Sampaio, who has been cast as Eve Teschmacher, the assistant and sometimes mistress to the scheming villain Lex Luthor.

Superman: Legacy will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
