MAN OF STEEL 2 and THE FLASH Reportedly "Lose Momentum" at Warner Bros.
Warner Bros. has several DC films in various stages of development at the moment, but there are two film projects that are said to be losing momentum.
According to Deadline, Man of Steel 2 and The Flash have “lost momentum.” This really isn’t a surprise, especially with Man of Steel 2. It’s already been reported that Henry Cavill was walking away from Superman and that the studio wasn’t looking to move forward with him anyway. They are also already working on a Supergirl film, which will get off the ground before a new Superman movie.
The report says that a Superman movie with Cavill returning is not likely as “Warner Bros. and Cavill were unable to come to terms for a Superman cameo in the Shazam! movie, Cavill took the role of Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher.”
As for The Flash, the last we heard is that the Ezra Miller movie was going to be starting production in 2019 with Spider-Man: Homecoming scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein at the helm, but I guess that may not be the case anymore. Regardless, Miller remains hopeful and recently said:
"Nothing is ever certain in this world, but as certain as things get, we’re making a fucking crazy-dope Flash movie. It’s one of my great life dreams, and just the fact that we’re on the way—anyone who knows about Barry Allen knows he may arrive late, very late, but once he gets there, it’s all solved. We have to trust."
The report goes on to say, “Of course, this does not mean that these movies will never come to fruition, but recent complications and Warner Bros. reluctance to follow up Zach Snyder and Joss Whedon's box office flop Justice League have made those projects less likely.”
It’s a shame that we may not see a Man of Steel sequel with Henry Cavill. I would have actually liked to see what a different director would do with the film, especially in the new direction that WB is headed with the DC films.
I’m sure one day they’ll reboot Superman again. As for The Flash, I think that will eventually happen, but not anytime soon.
