Marvel Studios Reportedly Developing a Disney+ Series Focused on UK Superheroes
Another Marvel report has surfaced that suggests the studio is moving forward with a Disney+ TV series that will focus on the UK's superheroes, and it could include characters from Eternals, Secret Invasion, and maybe even Captain Britain.
This report comes from reliable Marvel scooper Daniel Richtman, and this UK team of superheroes could very well make up Excalibur.
It’s explained that Kit Harington's Dane Whitman will return for this series, which presumably means he’ll be suiting up as Black Knight. This was teased at the end of Eternals, which also teased the debut of Blade.
As for the involvement of Secret Invasion, that series introduced us to the character Sonya Falsworth, who was played by Olivia Colman. This character is related to James Montgomery Falsworth, who is a member of Captain America: The First Avenger's Howling Commandos.
Then there’s Emilia Clarke’s Skrull character G'iah, Talos' daughter, who, in the series, becomes the MCU's most powerful superbeing after becoming a Super-Skrull. It would make sense for her to be involved.
There's no mention of Captain Britain, but a project like this would be the best possible place for that character to debut.
A couple of months ago, Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies revealed that before he returned to the sci-fi series, Marvel Studios approached him and asked if he was down to develop a British Marvel series as its showrunner. I wonder if this series was the show they wanted him to work on. He said: "I got asked to showrun a British Marvel show, but [they said] 'We can’t tell you what it is.’ To this day, I watch them and I can’t work out which show that was going to be. Obviously planning to make a British Marvel show that I haven’t seen. Has that happened?"
It’ll be interesting to see what comes of this series and what exactly it ends up being. But it would be cool to see the Excalibur team come together in the MCU.
