New Images From Marvel's SECRET INVASION Series and More Story and Character Details
Thanks to Vanity Fair, we have a few new images to share with you from Marvel’s Secret Invasion. These photos feature Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Olivia Colman as a shadowy MI6 operative, Emilia Clark’s mystery character, and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos.
We also have some new details that come from quotes from the cast. Secret Invasion “centers on Fury and Talos — who first met during the events of Captain Marvel — and a faction of shape-shifting Skrulls who have been infiltrating Earth for years.”
When talking about the show’s inspiration, producer Jonathan Schwartz says the series takes inspiration from the Cold War espionage thrillers of John le Carré and TV shows like The Americans and Homeland, and adds, "There are people ... you can only trust to a certain point."
Smulders explains to the magazine that Secret Invasion is a rare Marvel story where ordinary humans get to be the heroes. "There's nobody here who's glossy and ready for action in a spandex one-piece."
Nick Fury is not wearing his eyepatch in the series, but he hasn’t been healed. When talking about why the character is no longer sporting the eyepatch, Jackson said: “The patch is part of who the strong Nick Fury was. It's part of his vulnerability now."
When it comes to Clark’s character, it’s been rumored that she is playing a Skrull character named G’iah/Gloria Warner. Vanity Fair teases that while Clarke is new to the MCU, her character in Secret Invasion has been seen before. The actress said: "There's a kind of punk feeling that you get from this girl."
So, who exactly is she? She’s Talos’ daughter! Jacksoin revealed: "Remember when Ben was there with his wife and daughter? She's the little Skrull girl grown up. She's his daughter."
In regards to the story, Jackson reveals that the sci-fi story of a global takeover is about paranoia turning people against each other. He said: “There's a political aspect that kind of fits into where we are right now. Who's okay, who's not?"
When talking about Colman’s character Jackson said: “It's somebody that you've never seen her play before. She's coldblooded and just relishes being that person.”
The movie also brings back Don Cheadle as War Machine, and he previously talked about the series: "[The MCU] It's bananas! And it's very expansive. And obviously, now that everyone can show up in everybody else's story. I mean, I'm in Secret Invasion, so I'm in Sam [Jackson]'s show. There's a part of that, that kicks off what happens in Armor Wars."
The series also stars Kingsley Ben-Adir (Peaky Blinders), Killian Scott (Love/Hate), Carmen Ejogo (Fantastic Beasts), Christopher McDonald (Ballers), and Martin Freeman as Everett Ross, a former CIA agent who has been tasked with overseeing the Avengers.
Freeman talked about the series saying that it’s “pretty dark”saying: "It feels pretty different to stuff I’ve seen. It does feel like a little departure. Yeah, it does – in ways that I wouldn’t be that able to describe. Again, I’ve not seen it. I’ve not even read all of it. The bits I’ve read do feel different, I guess: Because of the nature of television, you can luxuriate in things a little bit more. That storytelling process is just elongated. So you have got more time to get those knotty problems out, which is the beauty of television at the moment.”
Secret Invasion will be released on Disney+ in Spring 2023 as part of Marvel's Phase 5 plan. Are you excited about this series!?
