Scarlett Johansson on the Possible Return of Black Widow in the MCU - "It's Would Be a Real Marvel Miracle"

There have been rumors spreading about Scarlett Johansson reprising her role of Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, in the MCU for Avengers: Secret Wars. During a recent interview on The Today Show, Johansson addressed these rumors, explaining that it was by a “real Marvel miracle.” She said:

“I feel like [Avengers: Endgame] is kind of the end, right? Like, can you come back? Could it be like a vampire version of the character? Because I’m here for that. Like a zombie version, maybe. It would be a miracle. It would be a real Marvel miracle. It would be a marvel. But, you know, who knows?”

She’s obviously not really familiar with what is currently going on in the MCU right now because if she was, she would understand how easy it would be for Marvel to bring Black Widow back. But, it definitely doesn’t sound like it’s something that she is aware of even if Marvel is thinking about it.

A previous report specifically mentioned bringing Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Johansson’s Black Widow back for a new Avengers movie. The other original stars that Marvel would want to come back include Chris Evans as Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Mark Ruffalo as Hulk, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor.

It was reported at the time, “With Iger publicly acknowledging the downside of a Marvel TV glut that ‘diluted focus and attention,’ the keepers of the comic book empire are considering some dramatic moves. Sources say there have been talks to bring back the original gang for an Avengers movie.”

We’ll just have to wait and see if anything actually comes of that. I’m personally not sold on the rumors as it would take away from the impact of the death of Iron Man and Black Widow.

It was also said that the studio “hasn’t yet committed to the idea — if it were able to bring those actors back, it wouldn’t come cheap.”

Secret Wars was Marvel Comics’ first big crossover event series, and it made its debut in 1984. The story centered on Marvel’s greatest heroes and villains being transported to Battleworld thanks to a powerful being known as the Beyonder. It’s on Battleworld where the heroes and villains could decide once and for all whether good or evil was the greater force.
