SPIDER-MAN 4 Reportedly Looking to Start Production in 2024
There hasn’t been a lot of movement on any big production in Hollywood over the course of the past few months due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. With projects being stalled, it means that productions have to be pushed back.
Marvel Studios has several projects in development including Spider-Man 4, which was being worked on before the strikes hit. Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers have returned to work on the next chapter of Spider-Man, and with the writers’ strike over, they are most likely getting back to work.
Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman recently offered an update on the project and claimed that Spider-Man 4 is currently looking at a late 2024 production start. That seems about right with everything going on, but I believe that Marvel and Sony still have yet to lock in its lead actor, Tom Holland, and there won’t be any movement on that until the actors’ strike is over.
In a previous interview with Holland, he explained that he’s sat down with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, producer Amy Pascal, and other executives to start figuring out what they want to do with a fourth film and if it’s something they should even do.
They did come up with a reason to keep going, but at the same time, Holland also says there’s a part of him that wants to walk away from Spider-Man. He said: "It was myself, Amy, [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige, [executive producer] Rachel [O'Connor], sometimes other executives from Marvel will sit in. It's a collaborative process. The first few meetings were about, 'Why would we do this again?' And I think we found the reason why. I'm really, really happy with where we're at in terms of the creative."
He went on to explain that he is still a little apprehensive about it: "But I'm also a little apprehensive about it. There's a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises. I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there's a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life."
While he’s having these feelings, I have no doubt that he’ll be back for more Spider-Man action. As for what the story will be, there have been rumors that Spider-Man 4 will serve as a sequel to Daredevil: Born Again, and that it would see Spider-Man team up with Daredevil to take down The Kingpin. While I love that idea, I personally don’t think this is the direction Marvel and Sony will go, because it’s too good. We’ll just have to wait and see, though.
Regardless, Spider-Man 4 won’t be released in theaters before 2026, but fans will be ready for it when it comes! What would you like to see in the fourth Spider-Man movie?
