SUPERMAN Actor David Corenswet Shares the Film's Comic Book Influences
Superman star David Corenswet has revealed some of the comic book storylines James Gunn's highly-anticipated DC film will be taking inspiration from.
The actor recently made a surprise appearance at a screening of his new movie, The Greatest Hits, and as you’d imagine, he was asked questions about the upcoming DCU reboot.
Obviously, the actor isn’t going to go into any detail on the film or reveal anything crazy, but he did share some of the comic book runs that inspired Gunn, but he also notes that the movie will be "totally its own thing."
The two comic book runs he mentions are Superman For All Seasons and All-Star Superman. Gunn previously talked about Superman For All Seasons, saying it’s “one of my favorite Superman stories & a huge influence on Legacy (& a strangely perfect bookend with All-Star Superman).”
The 4-issue limited series was created by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale and was published in 1998. The story is a coming-of-age tale, with four separate stories focusing on Clark coming to terms with his powers, his connection to Smallville, and the influence of those – particularly his parents, Lois Lane, and Lana Lang – around him.
Superman will tell the story of “Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane; Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor; Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern; Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl; Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt / Mr. Terrific; Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen; María Gabriela de Faría as Angela Spica, aka The Engineer; Sara Sampaio, as Eve Teschmacher; and Terence Rosemore as Otis.
Superman will launch the movie part of DC Studios’ Gods and Monsters: Part 1. It’s scheduled for a theatrical release on July 11, 2025.
